Karla Gachet & Ivan Kashinsky
Photographer
Ivan Kashinsky and Karla Gachet are photographers who have worked extensively in Latin America. Much of Kashinsky’s work has focused on culture and the impacts of globalization and consumerism on people and the environment. Kashinsky tells stories that shed light on subjects that are underrepresented in mainstream media. He has worked on assignment for publications such as National Geographic, The New York Times, GEO and Smithsonian. His images have been recognized in many prestigious photo contests and exhibited internationally.
Gachet has dedicated her life to portraying the realities of strangers in her photography. Attracted to the everyday, she tries to find the moment where an image illuminates humanity. Her work has been honored in competitions such as World Press Photo (2010), Pictures of the Year (2010), Best of Photojournalism (2008) and POYi Latin America (2011, 2013, 2015). Her photographs have been exhibited in Ecuador, Guatemala, Uruguay, China, London, India and the U.S.
Kashinsky and Gachet have published two books together: Historias Mínimas, from Ecuador to Tierra del Fuego (2009) and Gypsy Kings (2012). In 2011 Kashinsky and Gachet co-founded a documentary-photography collective called Runa Photos.
