Utilizing what he terms a “hip-hop baroque” aesthetic, Luis Gispert will discuss his interdisciplinary work that incorporates photography, sound, sculpture, and video. In 2001, Gispert began documenting Miami’s “chonga” girls in his series entitled, “Cheerleaders” and will offer insights into the genesis of his project, on display at the Cuba Is exhibit.
