Documentary Screening and Q&A
Film
PAST EVENT: Thu, Aug 17, 2017

Join us for a free screening of CNN Films’ ELIÁN, a new documentary from Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and director Tim Golden, director Ross McDonnell and producers Trevor Birney and Alex Gibney. This documentary explores a pivotal moment in the U.S.-Cuban relationship: the international custody battle and cultural fallout following the 1999 sea rescue of five-year-old Elián González. After the screening, stay for a Q&A with some of the filmmakers to hear more about the story behind the film.

Golden has covered Cuba from Havana, Washington and Miami during a 20-year career at The New York Times. Twice nominated for an Irish Film and Television Award, McDonnell’s work has screened at festivals around the world. His first documentary Colony won the First Appearance Award at IDFA in Amsterdam.
