David Alan Harvey
Capturing Cuba
David Alan Harvey has shot over 40 photographic essays for National Geographic magazine, including projects on French teenagers, the Berlin Wall, Mayan culture, Vietnam, Native Americans, Mexico, Naples, and Nairobi. In 1999, National Geographic published one of his major works, Cuba—described as a “sympathetic understanding of Cuba’s contemporary way of life.” He credits himself as both a photographer and mentor, considering the workshops and seminars he leads to be an essential part of his work. Harvey’s discussion of his work in Cuba is informed by his years instructing young photographers in New York City.
