Photographer
Valerie Jodoin Keaton is a Canadian-American photographer and indie-rock musician (The Dears and For Those About To Love). Her artistic work has often engaged subjects who might commonly be thought of as anachronisms, as those whose cultural time has passed or might disappear (The GRey Nuns, 2001; Backstage, 2009). Her book Backstage (Varia Publications, 2009, 117p.) is an insight on rock artists which Valerie Jodoin Keaton, while on tour around the world as a musician, had the chance to meet. By photographing the musciians right before or after their performances, Valeria Jodoin Keaton was able to capture the strong emotions lived during these moments which she was so familiar with, and thus reveal a more human and fragile side to the rock star. Her use of retro techniques (Hasselblad 500Cm with black&white film) to capture influential contemporary musicans creates a timeless homage to the men and women that help shape music today.
