Norman Jean Roy was born in Canada and grew up on Montreal’s South Shore. As a student of architecture and graphic design, it wasn’t until viewing an essay of famed photographer Richard Avedon in American Photo that Roy decided to dedicate his life and career to photography. As he tells it, “It was the single most important event of my photographic life.” A prominent portrait and style photographer for the past 20 years, Roy is the winner of numerous awards for his contributions to the world of both editorial and advertising photography. Awards include honors from the Art Directors Club, Communication Arts, and Photo District News. Roy’s unique and cinematic images can be found on newsstands around the world at any given moment.
