Portrait photographer Jona Frank has worked extensively with youth culture. Her most recent book, The Modern Kids, combines the qualities of formal fine-art portraits with the mystery and intimacy of the sport of boxing. Work from The Modern Kids is currently on view at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.
Her acclaimed first book, High School, explores the hierarchy of public high school across the United States. RIGHT, her second book, follows religious youth who aspire to become Republican political leaders.
Her work is in many private and corporate collections, as well as museums including the Getty Museum, SF MOMA and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Her photographs have appeared in print and online in such media as Newsweek, The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, Mother Jones, The Independent and The Guardian.
As of December 2016
