With advanced training in photography, Claudia González has spent the last few years involved in coordinating and managing events related to photography as well as exhibition projects in museums, galleries and art fairs throughout Europe and America. During the last few years, she has commissioned exhibition projects by Spanish artist José Maria Mellado, exploring art and its relationship to institutions, museums and art galleries. Her own work has also appeared internationally in galleries and fashion magazines.
In 2015, González began her ongoing project Reassign, featuring side-by-side portraits of men and women in Cuba as they transition through gender reassignment. Accompanying this work in-progress, she includes a quotation from photographer Danny Lyons: “The pictures are not made to disturb people’s consciences but rather to disturb their consciousness. The pictures do not ask you to ‘help’ these people, but something much more difficult; to be briefly and intensely aware of their existence, an existence as real and significant as your own.”
