Cuba: Antes, Ahora / Then, Now

Artist Conversations
Event
PAST EVENT: Thu, Nov 30, 2017

In conjunction with the Music Center’s presentation of Cuba: Antes, Ahora / Then, Now—and our exhibit Cuba Is—this event features a panel discussion and live demonstrations by artists and musicians whose work is vital and relevant to the Cuban arts scene of today. The artists in attendance, who will demonstrate their craft and technique, include: master musician of the tres guitar Pancho Amat; innovative percussionist (in both traditional Cuban rhythms and 21st century jazz styles) Yissy Garcia; and inventive rapper, musician and spoken-word artist Telmary Diaz.

Moderated by DJ, radio journalist and professor Betto Arcos, the discussion will explore Cuba’s dynamic arts and culture scene and the evolution from its historical roots to its modern interpretations. Admission is free.

Exhibit

Revealing complexities both on and off the island, Cuba Is explores aspects of Cuba not easily accessed by foreigners, and sometimes not even by Cubans themselves.
