Objects / Belongings: Writing and Drawing About Our STUFF

with Kate Bingaman-Burt
PAST EVENT: Sat, Dec 03, 2016

Have you always wanted to learn more about creating content for small press publications? Here’s your chance! Kate Bingaman-Burt will lead a workshop for a limited number of participants. You are asked to bring an object you have some relationship with, whether it’s meaningful or not. Bingaman-Burt encourages her students to think about these everyday objects in new ways. What stories do they tell about us? Apply your insights to the page! Along with all that thinking and making, you will learn about the small press world and practice various writing techniques and illustration methods.

Ticket also includes admission to the evening’s lecture Work It, Girl: Female Illustrators Panel.

Workshop Instructor Bio:

Kate Bingaman-Burt is an illustrator and educator. Her work orbits around the objects in our lives: the things we buy, the things we discard, and the collectivity and social interaction that can arise from cycles of consumption. Via illustrations, daily documentation, publications, events, large-scale participatory projects, client work, and a full-time role as educator, Kate’s work invites a dialogue about contemporary forms of exchange. She is an Associate Professor in Graphic Design at Portland State University. She runs the zine imprint YES! Press and sits on the boards of Design Week Portland, Independent Publishing Resource Center and Octopus Books. Some recent clients include IDEO, Uniqlo, Chipotle and Oprah Magazine.
